Not my fault

Teachers will often talk about the excuses that students will use for not handing in homework. These days, the fashion is not to blame the dog for eating it, but the computer. We’ve all heard variations of “my computer crashed”, or “my printer ran out of ink”.

This makes it all the more tragic when teachers come out with the same excuses.

I can accept that a computer problem may have made things tricky for one reason or another. However, my rule is this: you cannot use a computer problem as an excuse if you have not previously reported said problem to IT support.

So, missing a meeting because your email has not been working for 5 days is NOT a valid excuse when you haven’t bothered to tell us your email is not working. The reason you missed the email is not because there was a problem with the computer, it’s because you’re a disorganised moron.

It takes less than 2 minutes to raise a ticket. No-one is that busy that they don’t have 2 minutes. You are a trained professional earning considerably more than I do. Start acting like one.
