If you are a teacher who has just emailed us to ask if you can have your storage quota extended because you’ve run out of space, might I suggest that it would be prudent to first ensure you are not using over a quarter of your existing quota in folders named the following?

  • Guns N’ Roses
  • Bruce Springsteen
  • Kanye West
  • Coldplay
  • Keane

If you do not check this in advance, might I suggest that you might find your request denied?

P.S. It also helps if the last time you emptied the Recycle Bin was not in 2007.

I think your school should use the same policy we have about storing MP3s etc on our servers…

If we find them, we delete them without notice. Tough $hit!

How dare they fill our servers and backup tapes with MP3s!

Music students and teachers have a legitimate use for them. Other teachers do sometimes legitimately use music in class materials. However, it’s easy to see when that’s not the case, as the example above shows.

Same as you AngryTechnician – legit use prevents sweeping deletes…

I hope they are leagal downloads ? if not a couple of spoof letters usually sees them panic! In my early days working in a college we often put false demands for payment for telephone calls in lecturers post trays. Finance put the money into a christmas fund for needy children.
